Borneo PS – VJ Day Tribute display

The Borneo Philatelic Society, jointly with our colleagues in the Malaya Study Group, are pleased to announce that we are providing the Standing Display  at the Royal Philatelic Society, London marking the 80th anniversary of VJ Day on August 15th and the acceptance of the surrender by the Japanese Government on September 2nd 1945.

The display covers many of the events leading up to the outbreak of war in the Far East in December 1941, the ensuing fighting and incarceration  of captured troops and internees and their final liberation in September 1945. It will comprise of 20 frames of material amounting to the equivalent of 320 A4 sheets. Please note the display is of high resolution scans of the original material due to the impracticality of having guides present for the whole display period and also customs issues with material from outside the UK.

The display, collated by Malcolm Gascoyne on behalf of the two societies, opens on VJ Day Friday August 15th at the Royal Philatelic Society, London from 10am until 4pm on most working days (Monday to Friday). The display will remain open until the end of September. A brief pamphlet introducing the display will be available for visitors.

Everyone, members and non-members, is welcome to come to the exhibition. It may be necessary to occasionally take down the display if the frames are needed for member meetings at the Royal. Please contact the Royal on 020 7935 7332 or administrator@rpsl.org.uk to check if you are making a special journey.

The Royal Philatelic Society, London is at 15 Abchurch Lane, London EC4N 7BW. It is very close to Bank and Cannon Street tube stations and Cannon Street railway station.
